“Women In The Driving Seat”

Driver Trainer Kevin Brown was tasked with taking 21 members of the admin team from both the Head Office and Service Department for a driving lesson in a Volvo (FH4) Globetrotter truck.

This was a popular initiative instigated by Managing Director Alasdair Ferguson allowing any member of the team who wished to participate, the opportunity to experience driving an HGV Truck.

Alasdair commented: “I was keen for the team to experience driving a 44 tonne truck. It was a small taster and everyone seemed to enjoy it. It gave them first-hand experience of the sheer size of the truck, the technology and the comfort of a modern truck, and most were surprised at how maneuverable and light the steering was for such a large vehicle. Hopefully we will get some future budding female drivers from this.

The office staff spend their time dealing with the administrative elements of the business, and so for them to get a sense of perspective from a driver’s view, and to appreciate the challenges facing the drivers on the narrow Highland roads – was certainly an eye opener.

The shipping staff now wish to do the same with the shipping vessels so… Watch this space!”

Kevin Brown Head of Driver Training & Development comments: “Because car drivers do not always appreciate what it takes to drive a large goods vehicle, this was a fantastic opportunity for all those who took part to see for themselves just what it takes to drive the vehicle safely.

The Volvo (FH4) Globetrotter with its dynamic steering and its individual front suspension, not to mention the full leather interior, TV, fridge and microwave make the Volvo (FH4) an effortless and stunning place to work and live. A home away from home.

An outstanding effort and willingness to ‘give it a go’ from our future potential new drivers. Guys, stand aside – here come the girls…”
