The Company

The management team at Ferguson Transport, Spean Bridge, Scotland

Ferguson Transport is very much a family owned and run business. This recent photograph, taken by the famous Commando memorial at Spean Bridge, shows Managing Director Alasdair Ferguson on the left with the other eight family members of the management team.

Company History

Ferguson Transport was founded in 1959 by the late Archie Ferguson with his wife Anne in Ardrishaig, Argyll, Farm feed forestry and general haulage was the typical type of transport carried out in these days. Subsequent to the large windblow in the late 1960's when the forestry work dried up in Argyll, we then moved to Lochaber in 1974 to load and unload ships at Corpach Basin for Wiggins Teape pulp and paper mill as well as the transport of the raw materials i.e. roundwood and paper pulp and the deliveries of finished products, as far afield as Ireland via Campbelltown.

Since then our company has grown substantially, employing over 80 staff (including 9 family members) and an ever expanding fleet of over 40 vehicles. During this time we have developed invaluable knowledge and experience and gained an excellent reputation in the haulage business.

Archie Ferguson was tragically killed whilst assisting with the recovery of a loaded vehicle stuck on a forest road in 1997. Anne Ferguson retired from the business at the end of 2004 after 45 years, and the company is now run by Directors Alasdair, Carol, Jack and Leslie.

Since expansion Ferguson's current operation and business includes an impressive list of Blue Chip customers including: Skretting, part of the Nutreco Group, BSW Sawmills, Forest Enterprise, Marine Harvest, Arjo Wiggins, British Alcan, Travis Perkins, and Tilhill Harvesting to name but a few.

Over the last few years Fergusons have been fortunate to win a number of prestigious awards including the Business of the Year by Fort William and District Chamber of Commerce, runners up in the Highlands and Islands Business Awards for 2004, and Scottish Haulier Of The Year 2005, which was presented by HRH Princess Anne.

Based in the Highlands of Scotland, Fergusons can transport your goods all across the country by road, rail or sea as well as being able to offer you a full range of specialised services.
