The Bronze Ford – Cameron Square, Fort William
Recently, Ferguson Transport & Shipping had the privilege of organising the logistics to transport The Bronze Ford to Fort Williams’ Cameron Square where it was unveiled on the 19th May 2018.
The Bronze Ford is a full size replica of a Model T Ford that has been specially cast and sited in Fort William to commemorate the epic ascent of Britain’s Highest Mountain, Ben Nevis, by a Model T Ford in May 1911.The full sized replica with Henry Alexander at the wheel will be permanently placed in Cameron Square a few feet away from the spot where the Ford left to ascend Ben Nevis.
The Ben Nevis Ford Project Group has been fundraising for the project both locally and nationally to successfully raise the profile of the project and in turn raise the funds required to commission the Bronze Ford. The successful foundry was Powderhall Bronze of Edinburgh and in September 2017 the 2011 ‘Carry car’ was delivered and casting begun.
The Bronze Ford was transported and delivered by Ferguson Transport from Powderhall Bronze in Edinburgh to its new home in Fort William High Street – where it was unveiled on 19th May 2018 by Mike Munro, only living Grandson of Henry Ford. This was followed by a Grand Parade of 50 or more original Model T Ford cars which set off on the inaugural run of ‘’The Bronze Trail.’’
