“A momentous and exciting new development”
As of 29th April 2016, the K1 BSW Sawmill Site has been purchased by Ferguson Transport (Spean Bridge) Ltd and merged with the Ferguson Transport group of companies trading as Ferguson Transport & Shipping.
This is a momentous and exciting development for Ferguson Transport & Shipping, Scotland’s Environmental Haulier of the Year 2015, where staff numbers have over doubled in the last few years. As a result, Ferguson Transport & Shipping has expanded its operations to accommodate the encouraging growth of the Company. The purchase of the 18 acre site will operate as Ferguson Transport & Shipping’s flagship “logistics hub” in Corpach, by Fort William, which includes offices, 160,000 sq. feet of warehousing, large hardstanding and a weighbridge, which will centralise most of Ferguson Transport & Shipping’s local activities on to the one site in due course.

Alasdair Ferguson, Group Managing Director of Ferguson Transport & Shipping comments: “This further investment and commitment by the Company is an exciting new development which will allow for further growth within the Company, and give us the necessary room we need to expand in the Corpach area and in some cases consolidate some of our existing activities in the area on to the one site. We will also look for other possible partners in due course, for example, in manufacturing to fully utilise the space we have available and where we can offer full logistical support.
The company has seen considerable investment in the last decade, with shipping, rail freight, port and warehousing facilities added to our growing logistics operations and at the heart of this is our customers. We have taken the steps to provide the facilities fit for purpose for our customers and enhance the service we can provide to our customers in the local and national economy.”
Howard Jones, Group Finance Director of BSW comments: “I am delighted that our Kilmallie site has been sold to a local Scottish company that is expanding their operations and hence employment in the West Highlands. Ferguson Transport & Shipping are a strategic partner of BSW Timber Ltd and this transaction further cements that relationship. I am sure that they will make as good use of the site as we have in the past.”
In March 2015, Ferguson Transport & Shipping purchased Skye Transport (Crossal) Ltd; such investment demonstrates steady growth within the group for road, rail, sea, port and warehousing sectors in areas that is fitting in well with existing business and contracts.
