Ferguson Transport & Shipping Wins ‘Lochaber Business of the Year’ Award

Ferguson Transport & Shipping, one of the largest independent transport and distribution companies in the Highlands, were delighted to have been awarded “Lochaber Business of the Year” at the 2015 Highland Business Awards on Friday 25th September.  The prestigious award ceremony recognised the achievements of businesses right across the board at a lunch and award ceremony at the Drumossie Hotel, Inverness. The event was organised by Inverness Chamber of Commerce in association with their media partner Scottish Provincial Press.

Group Managing Director of Ferguson Transport & Shipping, Alasdair Ferguson, said: “We collected this award on behalf of the directors, family and our staff which are very much valued, loyal members of our team. This award recognises the hard work and dedication by so many at Ferguson Transport & Shipping. Many thanks once again.”

The family business, Ferguson Transport & Shipping have over 190 invaluable staff members, of which approximately over 80 are drivers and over 30 are marine staff. Within the team also include 12 family members of staff, including six members within the third generation. Staff numbers at Ferguson Transport & Shipping have tripled in the last five years. As a result, Ferguson Transport & Shipping in early 2015 expanded its Head Office space at Annat in Corpach to accommodate the encouraging growth of the company. Approximately 20 jobs are currently advertised through various departments within the Company.

In 2015, Ferguson Transport & Shipping have welcomed several new roles within the Company, including a new SHEQ Officer, Frank Davidson Tech IOSH AMIFPO, to head up the Health & Safety Department, new General Manager, Peter Hamling, to bolster management operations throughout Lochaber, Kishorn Port and the UK, and a new Executive Secretary planned to start imminently.

In March 2015, Ferguson Transport & Shipping purchased the haulage company Skye Transport (Crossal) Ltd, which increased its transport fleet size and its staffing levels. This opened up further opportunities with a portfolio of new customers, including Diageo for whisky transport and other markets on the Isle of Skye and Inverness.
